A combined 3D laser scan and topographical survey of a working school, delivered for an architect preparing a planning application.
The brief
An architect was preparing a planning application for work at the school and needed an accurate picture of the existing site and buildings to design from.
How we surveyed it
We established control with GNSS RTK and total stations, then surveyed the grounds topographically and 3D laser scanned the buildings. Tying both datasets to the same control meant the site plan and the building information lined up without any adjustment.
Site challenges
The school was open throughout. We planned the fieldwork around pupils and term times, kept equipment clear of busy routes, and worked to the school’s safeguarding and access arrangements.
What the client received
DWG and PDF drawings of the site and buildings, ready to use as the base for the planning drawings.
