Why inspect a roof by drone

Getting eyes on a roof normally means scaffolding, ladders or a cherry picker: expensive, slow to arrange and a working-at-height risk. A drone captures the same detail from the ground, usually in a single short visit, so you get answers faster and for less.

What you get

Every elevation of the roof is photographed at high resolution and filmed, with close-ups of chimneys, valleys, flashings and gutters. Files arrive organised and at full resolution, and we can add a written roof condition report. We work alongside building surveyors who need the evidence for their own reports.

Safety first

Each flight is planned and checked before take-off. We confirm permissions where they are needed, keep clear of people, and will not fly if conditions are not safe. For survey data rather than inspection photos, see drone surveys.

How it works

  1. Quote and flight check

We quote within one working day, check the location can be flown, and confirm a fixed price and date.

  2. Flight

Our CAA-qualified pilot assesses the site and equipment, then captures the roof in photos and video.

  3. Delivery

Media is usually with you within two days of the flight, with a condition report if ordered.

Who we work with

  • Building surveyors

Close-up roof evidence for condition reports, without arranging access.

  • Property and facilities managers

Planned maintenance and post-storm checks across a portfolio.

  • Homeowners and insurers

A clear record of roof damage for repairs and claims.

I contacted Tom to carry out a Topographic survey, and cannot recommend them enough. Nothing was to much, and I was kept up to date with everything as it happened! Great company to deal with and reasonably priced.

Roof inspections: common questions

What issues does a roof inspection usually find?

Missing or damaged tiles, flashing and capping stones, blown ridge mortar, blocked or cracked gutters, loose fixings, vegetation or guano build-up, and brickwork damage to chimneys and parapets.

What drones do you use?

Mainly a DJI Mavic 2 Pro Zoom, with optical zoom for close detail from a safe distance, and a smaller DJI Mavic 3 in very built-up areas.

Are your pilots qualified and insured?

Yes. Our pilots hold the CAA A2 Certificate of Competency, and we carry £5 million public liability insurance.

Is there anywhere you cannot fly?

Some areas need permission first, including parts of central London and areas around airports, prisons and nuclear sites. We never fly over groups of people.
