Accurate data in congested spaces

Plant rooms and process plant are dense with pipework, ducts, steel and equipment. Measuring them by hand is slow, unsafe in places and prone to error, and errors in tie-in positions are expensive to fix once prefabricated work arrives on site. Laser scanning captures everything in one visit.

From scan to design

The registered point cloud can be used directly by your engineers, or we model the pipework, steelwork and equipment you need through our BIM modelling service, from LOD 100 to LOD 400. New designs can be checked against the scan before anything is fabricated.

Experience on major sites

We spent two years providing scanning and setting out support at Bradwell nuclear power station, working within the site’s safety and security requirements.

Turbine hall at Bradwell nuclear power station during decommissioning work We bring the same planning to factories, plant rooms and other live industrial environments.

How it works

  1. Scope and safety

Agree areas, permits, inductions and working times with the site's operations team.

  2. Scan

Dense scans capture pipework, steel and equipment from enough positions to see around congestion.

  3. Model and check

We model the elements you need and check new designs against the existing plant.

Who we work with

  • MEP and process engineers

Accurate geometry for tie-ins, replacements and new routes.

  • Main contractors

    Prefabrication that fits first time.

  • Plant and facilities managers

    Up-to-date records of complex assets.

★★★★★

We have used THS Concepts for multiple surveys from topographic to drone photogrametry, they are professional and prompt and deliver exactly what is requested. Highly recommended.

We was looking for a local company to survey our setting out on our new build project and came across THS, We are VERY happy with the service they provided, Tom visited the site and was very helpful and professional. providing a detailed description and was very thorough. we will defiantly be using THS in the near future.

I contacted Tom to carry out a Topographic survey, and cannot recommend them enough. Nothing was to much, and I was kept up to date with everything as it happened! Great company to deal with and reasonably priced.

Industrial plant scanning: common questions

Can you scan while the plant is operating?

Usually, yes. Scanning is non-contact and quick, and we plan positions and working times with the operations team to stay clear of live processes.

Can you model the pipework?

Yes. Pipework, steel and equipment are modelled through our BIM modelling service, from LOD 100 to LOD 400.

Why scan instead of measuring by hand?

Congested plant is slow and unsafe to measure by hand, and small errors in tie-in positions are expensive. A scan captures everything in one visit, so prefabricated work fits first time.

Have you worked on high-security sites?

Yes, including a two-year project at Bradwell nuclear power station providing scanning and setting out support.
