Dunton Road, Basildon
A 35 hectare development site captured by drone LiDAR, with ground control, for a land developer.
The brief
A land developer needed a topographical survey of a 35 hectare site to assess it for development.
How we surveyed it
We flew the site with drone LiDAR and tied the data to the OS grid with GNSS ground control. LiDAR records the ground beneath vegetation as well as the canopy, so we could produce ground levels in areas a photogrammetry survey would struggle with. The topographical drawings were then produced from the classified point cloud.
Site challenges
The size of the site and the amount of vegetation were the main considerations. Surveying 35 hectares on foot would have taken considerably longer, and dense cover would have limited what a ground survey could reach. Drone LiDAR covered the whole area quickly and consistently.
What the client received
