THS Concepts were commissioned by Tikari Works to precisely set out various elements of the complex construction works. Tikari works are a multidisciplined design studio describing themselves as makers, designers and architects. They work on small projects through to multi unit developments, winning multiple awards including:
The project required careful attention to detail when it came to laying out the build. A lot of the grid lines were not square (90 degrees) to each other, which meant doing this using conventional tapes and lasers a difficult task.
Tikari works identified this issue and contracted THS Concepts to undertake setting out services which involved:
The first stage of the project was to establish the local control network around the site. This would form the principle of the control network which we would reference back to when setting up our survey instruments.
The survey control network was established using Leica total stations and RTK GPS equipment. The control network was formed using survey nails and reflective targets placed on fixed items around the site. This included:
Once we had established our control network, we undertook a number of checks and aligned our network to the client’s setting out drawings. We could now begin the setting out process!
To set out the various elements of the work, we utilised a Leica 1 second total station. Leica is the leading brand for surveying projects, renown for their accuracy and reliability. When setting out grid lines, walls and foundations, we utilised survey flags, driven nails, reflective targets and pen marks to illustrate to the site team where to build things!
The Rye Apartments projects have now been finished. The project setting out went very well. This was helped enormously by the quality of the drawings and communications with Tikari Works, who knew and understood the exact information and details we required.
The apartments have been built to an excellent standard, this has been reflected in the various awards Tikari works have won. THS Concepts are very proud to have been part of this project and look forward to working with Tikari Works on future projects!
