Monitoring Survey Overview

Structural movement monitoring uses fixed targets or prisms to track shifts over time. Data is reported through graphs, triggering investigation if limits are exceeded.

Crucial for projects near shared structures like basement excavations and underpinning, it ensures safety and compliance. With extensive experience in London, we provide reliable monitoring for projects from small builds to multi-million-pound refurbishments.

Monitoring Survey Service - How It Works?

1 - Proposal Plan Produced [Free Of Charge]

If you haven't received specifications from your Structural Engineer, we can provide a complimentary initial monitoring specification document for approval by your contractor or engineer.

2 - Monitoring Scheme Installed

Our skilled surveyors conduct on-site visits and ongoing surveys to track movement over time. We establish survey points and provide guidance on optimal placement during the site visit.

3 - Post Setup Report

After the initial setup, we provide a detailed report outlining key aspects, including point locations, setup positions, and any relevant considerations.

4 - Monitoring Begins

Once you're ready to begin, we’ll schedule site visits at set intervals (weekly, monthly, etc.) to survey the monitoring points. After each visit, we process the data and deliver the results to you.

5 - Removing The Monitoring Points

At the end of the monitoring process, THS Concepts can arrange a site visit to remove the monitoring points. Our cost-effective, disposable targets can also be easily removed by your contractor if needed.

Monitoring Surveys Around London

We have worked with a wide range of companies in London, including architects, construction firms, party wall surveyors, developers, and environmental consultants.

Previous Projects

Wembley Stadium

Conducting periodic inspections to monitor the roof structure and arch at the stadium.

Old Poplar Gas Works

Monitoring the riverwall around the large development to ensure movement does not exceed limits.

Newman Street, Fitzrovia

Monitoring buildings surrounding a large hotel development that extended 3 storeys underground.

Reeves Mews, Mayfair

Monitoring a large residential building whilst a basement was being constructed.

What Projects Typically Require Movement Monitoring?

Basement Construction

Particularly in urban areas where properties are closely packed, such as in many parts of the UK. Monitoring is crucial when excavating for basements to ensure the stability of neighbouring structures, especially party walls.

Insurance

Monitoring surveys often accompany insurance claims as a way of verifying if a building is moving and to what extent.

Underpinning

This is often required for structural stability or as part of basement creation. Monitoring ensures that the underpinning process does not adversely affect the surrounding soil and structures.

Demolition

Monitoring is essential to ensure that the demolition process does not cause damage to nearby buildings, particularly in dense urban environments.
